The idea is pretty simple, every week you dedicate a post to the three W’s:

What have you just finished reading?

So here we go!

What are you currently reading?

Fortuna Sworn- K.J. Sutton

After her brother disappeared 2 years ago, Fortuna is the last of her kind. She searches for him, and then is approached by a powerful faerie with a bargain. In exchange for her, he will reunite her with her brother. She bargains and soon realizes that she may have bargained with her very life. This is a dark fantasy romance and is definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s not a glowy happy romance, but I’m enjoying it so far.

What have you just finished reading?

A Court of Silver Flames- Sarah J. Maas

This is book 5 in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and follows some of the side characters from the previous trilogy, specifically Nesta and Cassian. I loved this book folks. I loved this book so very much. It talks about healing from trauma and the power of friendship. It follows the events of the last book in the original trilogy and the

I loved this book so much.

What are you going to read next?

Persephone Station- Stina Leicht

Persephone Station is a community on the backwater planet of the same name, has been largely ignored by the United Republic of World. It has become the focus of the Serrao-Orlov Corporation due to secrets that the corporation wants to exploit. We follow Rosie, the owner of Monk’s Bar, a bar that caters to criminals and rich Earther tourists that are looking for a thrill and Angel, an ex marine who is the head of an organized band of criminals who have a penchant for doing the honorable thing. Angel is asked to perform a job for Rosie, and they both realize that this will affect Persephone more than they thought, and put Angel and her squad against an army.

Pst: This an an LGBT (with non-binary characters), “gals with guns” space opera with a fast paced plot and a wide diverse cast of characters. It’s one that I’m looking forward to.

What are you currently reading?

Nevernight- Jay Kristoff

This is a reread for me. (So many re-reads this month) This is the story of Mia Corvere, a 16 year old assassin that is looking for revenge against those who killed her family. I love this story so much. I know that a lot of people have mixed feelings on this one, but it’s still one of my favorites. I’m loving my re-read of it so far. I hope to re-read the rest of the series one book a month.

What have you just finished reading?

Crescent City- Sarah J. Maas

Set in the city of Crescent City, Bryce Quinlan, a half-Fae, half-Human, attempts to solve the mystery of <slight spoiler, that is included in the synopsis, but is still a spoiler of sorts> the murder of some close to her, along with Hunt Athlar, the Umbra Mortis, an assassin of the Governor of the Republic. Set in a colorful world filled with Fae, shifters, magic and romance, Bryce learns more about herself than she could have ever thought possible. I freaking loved this one. This was also a re-read but I just wanted to get back into this world.

What are you going to read next?

The Space Between Worlds- Miciah Johnson

A story where the multi-verse exists, you can only visit the worlds of the multi-verse in which your alternate has died. Cara’s alternates have died on 372 worlds in total. She is an outlier and is used to visit the worlds for different kinds of work for the Eldridge Institute.

When one of her last 8 doppelgängers dies in mysterious circumstances, she finds secrets that connect her past, future and present in ways she could have never imagined.

I love this idea so much and can’t wait to read this.

What are you currently reading?

Ship of Destiny- Robin Hobb

This is the third book in The Liveship Traders series, so I’m not going to go into what exactly this one is about, because spoilers?

Basically this series is about magical ships that come to life after three generations of a family have died on its decks. In this book, we follow the Vestrit family, a family of Liveship Traders, and their ship, the newly quickened Vivacia. I love this series and I’m so excited to finally read the conclusion to it.

What have you just finished reading?

Stamped From the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America- Ibram X. Kendi

Nonfiction book about the history of racist ideas in the United States. This was very eye opening and interesting and I think that it should be read by everyone.

The First Sister- Linden A Lewis

This one was so good. It was a diverse mix of Star Trek-esque space ships and The Handmaid’s Tale. I love this book so much and would have read it in one sitting if it had not been that I worked the next day. I highly recommend this one, and the second book comes out in August of 2021.

What are you going to read next?

These Violent Delights- Chloe Gong

Romeo and Juliet in 1920s Shanghai. Need I say more?

I am LOVING this book. It’s probably going to be another favorite of the year. The premise of magic as an illness is such an interesting concept. To boot, this story has some activism regarding immigrants and the rights that they should have in nations that they live in. I’m truly loving it. I highly recommend it. It also has some LGBTQ rep that is healthy! Go read The Fever King by Victoria Lee!

What have I just finished reading?

Oh boy. Okay, so I finished reading this one a few days ago, and let me tell ya, I was somewhat disappointed. I gave this a 2.5 stars and you can see my more in depth thoughts on my review. I was disappointed that I didn’t enjoy this as much as I was expecting to. I’m also not really big on dystopian to begin with. There were some good messages in this story, I just thought that they were executed in a very strange manner. That being said, please feel free to read it, let me know your thoughts if you have/decide to read this.

What am i reading next?

I’ve been really craving a sci-fi lately, so I’m going to read this one. To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what this novel is about. I know it has a ship, and a girl whose brother leaves their family to fight a useless war. The thing that drew me to this book was the cover. I love the bright colors on it and am really excited to start it once I finish the book I am currently reading!

I enjoyed this one, but it left some things lacking. I’m going to go more into this when I review it. Look out for my review soon!

I’ve heard so many good things about this book, and I am beyond excited to start it. I’ve had it on my shelf for a while, and the cover is amazing!

This is a re-read for me. I love Brandon Sanderson and all of the books I’ve read from him. This is such an interesting concept. This is a story that has loss, love, despair and hope. It has everything that I love. The characters are dynamic and well fleshed out. I’m also planning on re-reading the second book in the series, The Well of Ascension, very shortly after I finish this one.

Recently Finished Reading

Okay, this is a book that I was super excited to read and I was not disappointed! This is a story of a witch and a witch hunter who are forced into holy matrimony and the chaos that ensues.

I really enjoyed this book. I felt like the development of characters and their romance was developed well. It was definitely not insta-love and I found myself rooting for them at the end. Some of the twists were a little out of nowhere, but I still enjoyed myself while reading.

Reading Next

This is the sequel to the book I’m currently reading. This will also be a re-read for me, but I don’t remember any of it. I’m excited to continue immersing myself in the world. I will be reading the third book, Hero of Ages, for the first time and I’m excited to see what the conclusion to this trilogy is.

What are you reading? What did you just finish reading? What are you planning on reading next?

I hope you have a wonderful day, and as always, happy reading.

I FINALLY have Darkdawn in my hands. I have been waiting for this book since I finished Godsgrave in August. I don’t know how those who had to wait a whole 2 years for this book did it! I’m not very far into it, but I’m LOVING it. I know that I’m going to fly through it. I’m definitely trying to avoid any spoilers online and have been successful with this so far!

I’m also reading The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. I’m a little bit over halfway through this one, and I’m enjoying it. I definitely love the characters in this, and the world building is amazing! I don’t want to say much else on this one until I review it, so stick around for that soon! 🙂

Recently Finished

I had some very mixed feelings about this one. I gave this one three stars, and while I enjoyed it, I had some qualms with some of the characters and the way the story was written. I think I will still be reading the sequel so I can find out what happens, but it’s going to be on the back burner for now. Check out my review for The Cruel Prince by Holly Black here.

Okay, this is another book that I have been super excited to read. This is a story of a witch and a witch hunter who are forced into holy matrimony and the chaos that ensues. I am so excited to read this one, and I have MAJOR cover love for it as well. It’s even more gorgeous in person! I’ll probably pick this up after I finish reading what I’m currently reading.
